About Build Bright Volunteer Student Group

Build Bright Volunteer Student Group was founded by Prof. Em Khedy on August 1st, 2008 under the approval of the President of Build Bright University, in Siem Reap. Initially, seventeen members were selected from all faculties throughout the university. Our group has a strong commitment to help our local community, and to enhance the development of our nation. Today, we have twenty active members. Build Bright Volunteer Student Group receives no funding from the university.

Objectives

  • To build competency of all group members so as to enable meaningful contributions to society.
  • To conduct research for the university or outsiders upon request.
  • To preserve Khmer Cultural Heritage.
  • To conduct social projects designed to help our people, as well as our nation.

Training

Beyond our assigned studies, we provide additional training such as English, computer instruction, and research methodology. Moreover, we participate in numerous training workshops conducted by the university and other organizations.

Research

Our group conducts research for our university, as well as for outside organizations such as International Labor Organization (ILO), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Impact Media, Economic Institute of Cambodia (EIC), and others.

Exchange programs

Since the establishment of our group, we have conducted exchange programs with students from Japan, America, Singapore, South Korea and other universities in Cambodia.

Social works

Due to financial constraints, our group cannot conduct adequate social development activities.

However, we do survey and conduct research studies within our local communities in order to discover new ways to share our knowledge within the community.
Additionally, we have conducted lessons for our local people at Prey Kroch Community, through a project organized by the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan (NFUAJ). Through this project, we conducted classes on such topics as The Importance of Study and Health and Sanitation. Further, in order to both teach and entertain, we performed a role play activity under the title of The Essence of Knowledge.

Leisure activity

A side from learning, teaching, and working, our group had organized a pinic to visit our bird sanctuary at Prek Tol, which is also known as the Ecotourism destination in the Tonle Sap Lake.

Future plans

Cambodia is one of the Least Developed Countries in the world. There remains to be plenty of work necessary or helping our nation.

Our future plans are as follows:

  • to seek funding to help our poor people in the local community;
  • to provide education to our people, especially children of poor families;
  • to maintain our cultural heritage for the young generation;
  • to continue helping our society;
  • to build relationships with others around the world, especially with students from other nations.
